| dc.description.resumo | Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL) is a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia characterized by the proliferation of abnormal promyelocytes in the bone marrow and peripheral blood, mainly associated with the t (15;17) chromosomal translocation and the formation of the PML-RARA fusion gene. It is a serious hematological emergency due to the high incidence of coagulopathies and hemorrhages, responsible for high rates of early mortality when there is no rapid diagnosis and immediate treatment. This study aimed to develop a study on APL, highlighting the main aspects related to its etiology, cytogenetic alterations, and laboratory diagnostic methods, emphasizing its clinical relevance for early recognition and appropriate management of the disease. The methodology used consisted of an exploratory literature review with a qualitative approach, conducted through searches in scientific databases, including the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), the Academy of Science and Technology (AC&T), and the (PubMed), using publications between 2015 and 2025, in Portuguese and English. The results demonstrated that cytogenetic analysis, karyotyping, the method, Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (FISH) and the Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) technique play a fundamental role in identifying the t (15;17) translocation and the PML-RARA gene, allowing for greater diagnostic precision and therapeutic monitoring. The blood count also showed great relevance in the initial suspicion of the disease, revealing important hematological alterations. Furthermore, coagulation disorders were found to be one of the main clinical complications of APL, reinforcing the need for early diagnosis. It is concluded that cytogenetic and molecular methods are indispensable for the diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of acute promyelocytic leukemia, directly contributing to the reduction of mortality and therapeutic efficacy, in addition to highlighting the importance of the biomedical professional's role in the hematological field. | EN |
