| dc.description.resumo | Chronic non-progressive encephalopathy of childhood, also known as cerebral palsy, is characterized by permanent but non-evolving alterations in movement and posture resulting from an injury to the immature brain. These alterations compromise children’s motor development and functionality, requiring early and effective physiotherapeutic interventions. Among therapeutic approaches, hippotherapy has stood out for combining the horse’s three-dimensional movement with sensory and motor stimuli that promote postural control, balance, and motor coordination. This study aims to investigate the effects of hippotherapy as a physiotherapeutic intervention in children with chronic non-progressive encephalopathy. The methodology will follow the principles of an integrative literature review, with a qualitative approach and basic nature. The searches will be conducted in the SciELO, PubMed, LILACS, and Virtual Health Library (BVS) databases, using the descriptors “hipotherapy”, physiotherapy” and “cerebral palsy” combined with the Boolean operator AND. Original articles published between 2018 and 2026 that were available in full text and related to the application of hippotherapy in children with cerebral palsy were included. Initially 3.094 records were identified of these, 12 studies met the inclusion criteria and comprised the review’s final sample. It is expected that the results will highlight the benefits of hippotherapy in the rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy, demonstrating significant advances in balance, motor control, posture, and functionality. It is also believed that this research will contribute to the recognition of hippotherapy as a complementary physiotherapeutic practice and strengthen its scientific relevance in the field of neuromotor rehabilitation in children. The results demonstrated that hippotherapy promotes significant improvements in gross motor function, functional performance, and balance, in addition to contributing to the reduction of spasticity and the reorganization of neuromuscular control. However, the effects on quality of life were variable, indicating the need for more standardized studies. It is concluded that hippotherapy constitutes a promising therapeutic approach and may be incorporated into physiotherapeutic rehabilitation programs for children with cerebral palsy. | Em |
